Goldthread (South China Morning Post)
A multimedia publication that documents China
I co-founded Goldthread, a publication that covers culture, identity, and travel in China through video and other multimedia formats for a global, English-speaking audience. Incubated by the South China Morning Post.
As the project’s first hire, I crafted the editorial, creative, and social media strategy of the publication.
My reporting spanned mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Besides producing and hosting videos, I trained and managed an editorial team that created platform-specific video content. I also gathered and worked with a global network video freelancers.
Chinese-American Video Series (AJ+)
Emmy Award-winning documentaries
I pitched, produced, and hosted Chinese Food: An All-American Cuisine, a three-part documentary series for AJ+ (Al Jazeera) that examines Chinese communities in urban, suburban, and rural America.
The episode on San Francisco’s Chinatown won a regional Emmy in Northern California in 2018.
The Mississippi Delta episode has over 10 million views on YouTube and Facebook and organically spurred a viral, productive reddit thread on race (it’s possible!).
“This whole series kicks ass.” –Junot Diaz
